Memory Capture Workshops
Working across the social care sector including care homes & domiciliary care providers, my memory capture workshops aims to saviour precious memories across a ‘life well lived’ and a broad range lifetime events.
The format I have created is a beautiful and engaging workshop for between 5 and 15 participants which can take place at any location, Alternatively, it can be presented virtually via series of easily understood videos ensuring that the heart of the project remains inclusive to capture as many experiences & memories as part of the overall project outcomes.
Lasting around and hour and a half and with the assistance care workers, volunteers or family members we take time to discuss, chat and record everyone’s lovely stories,
Benefits to the Residents/clients/collaborators
Numerous studies have found that social interaction and creative expression are an important part of physical and mental wellbeing and can improve general health. People need meaningful engagement with the world around them for personal satisfaction. Research by Age UK shows a clear link between organised activities and wellbeing. Groups of people with a shared interest and purpose are more content.

The resulting engagement can also lead to mental and physical benefits. Rhymeology creates group activities around the power of Rhyme, giving residents a chance to express themselves and engage with fellow residents in creating meaningful and engaging rhymes. It could be about their life, memories they hold dear or someone close to them.
What follows is a suggested short & simple video series to act as a training tool for care assistants or as direct instructions for anyone participating in the project and how this virtual memory kit could be delivered:-
The process for Residential Care homes providers -
Book the workshop at their care home with the Rhymeologist.
Publicise the event internally using our leaflet to help.
Organise with the residents on the morning/afternoon of the event.
Make everyone a cup of tea/coffee and settle down, ready to engage.
Let the Rhymeologist lead the workshop session around the worksheet.
Watch as all resident’s male & female engage with the workshop & theme.
We take regular short breaks for the Rhymeologist to share other poems.
Complete the session by collecting the forms and feedback.
The Rhymeologist will take these away and write the memory capture poem.
Finally, there is always the option to film the poem with the residents.
The process for Domiciliary Care Providers -
Ask all care assistants to watch the Rhymology workshop video.
Print out the provided workshop PDF for home care visits.
Ask care assistants to complete the home care workshop period.
Email back all workshop forms all boxes complete.
Let the Rhymeologist lead the workshop session around the worksheet.
Watch as all clients male & female engage with the workshop theme.
The Rhymeologist with take these away a write the memory capture poem.
Finally, there is always the option to film the poem with the residents
The first video will be a simple introduction into what the memory capture project is including the cyclical themes its aims and objectives and some of the feedback received from previous facilitated workshop.
The second video would be a short instructional video to explain the process of the memory capture workshop, as well as an introduction to the worksheet that accompanies the course and acts as the record keeping document for all memories captured.
The third video and explains what will happen with those very precious memories and the writing process, which I take to create a beautiful poem, encapsulating their experiences and how this will be delivered, and the project completed.
Excel sheet needs further work to complete this part of the theme process
